Rathlin Seals & Lighthouses Tour

A relaxed two-hour cruise to Rathlin's seal haul-outs and towering lighthouses. Fresh sea air, big cliffs and relaxed seal watching.

About this experience

Rathlin at its most relaxed: the classic Rathlin Sound cruise in its quieter season. Two hours from Ballycastle among the seals, the cliffs and the lighthouses.

On the water

– Out of Ballycastle harbour with views of the North Coast, Rathlin Island and, on a clear day, the Mull of Kintyre, Islay and Jura

– Rue Point lighthouse and the seals at Ushet Port

– The East Lighthouse at Altacorry, 72 metres above the sea

– Bruce's Cave, where Robert the Bruce sheltered in 1306

– The crew's stories of the coast as the cliffs rise around you

Wildlife you may see

– Seals hauled out on the rocks and bobbing in the coves

– Resident seabirds along the cliffs

– No puffins in the off season: they're out at sea until spring

– Late summer brings the odd minke whale or basking shark (rare and never promised, but it happens)

Good to know

– Warm clothes and a coat (Dryrobes are great); bring a blanket if you feel the cold

– Mixed indoor and outdoor seating

– We can't promise wildlife, but the crew will always help you look

– Weather dependent

Departs: Ballycastle Marina · Duration: approx 2 hours

NB: Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure. Ballycastle is busy, so allow time for parking.
