How do we find the boat?
We depart from Ballycastle Harbour — Outer Harbour, Bayview Road, BT54 6BT. Follow the signs for the Rathlin ferry until you reach the ferry terminal. To the right of the terminal you'll see a pier: walk down it, through the big green gate, and our boat “Selkie” is on the right — the pin on the map marks the exact spot.
It's a 5–10 minute walk from the car park behind the terminal, so please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure.
Where can we park?
There's a car park behind the Rathlin ferry terminal, but spaces are limited in summer — allow extra time to find a spot and walk down the pier. Please also check whether car parking charges apply before leaving your vehicle.
What should I bring?
Binoculars, if you have them — they make all the difference for puffins, seals and seabirds on the cliffs. A camera or phone (with a good grip!), sunscreen, water, and a warm layer even on sunny days. Everything you bring should fit on your lap or under your seat.
What should I wear?
Warm layers, waterproof clothing if rain is forecast, and flat, practical shoes. Conditions at sea can feel much colder than on land, even on clear days.
Will we see puffins, seals or dolphins?
Wildlife sightings vary by season, route and sea conditions. Guests regularly see puffins (in season), seals, porpoises, dolphins and thousands of seabirds — but they're wild animals, so sightings can never be guaranteed.
Are trips weather dependent?
Yes. All boat trips depend on safe sea and weather conditions. If conditions are unsuitable, the Kintra team will contact you about rescheduling, a refund or other options.
Are the tours close to the Giant's Causeway?
Yes — Ballycastle is on the Causeway Coast and a popular stop for visitors exploring the Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede and Rathlin Island. Our tours depart from Ballycastle Harbour, not from the Giant's Causeway itself.
Which tour should I choose?
For a shorter scenic trip, choose the Carrick-a-Rede, Cliffs & Caves Tour. For wildlife, the Puffins, Seals & Lighthouses Tour (seasonal). For the full Rathlin experience with time ashore, the Round Rathlin Lighthouses & Landing Tour. Every tour page shows live availability.
Can children and infants come along?
Absolutely — children are very welcome, and every tour has child tickets (under 16). Selected tours also offer infant tickets; you'll see them when booking if the tour is suitable. Life jackets are provided for everyone on board.
Is the boat suitable for wheelchairs or buggies?
Unfortunately the boat is not suitable for buggies, prams or wheelchairs. Not all seats are inside, and boarding involves steps along the pier. If you're unsure whether a trip will work for you, get in touch before booking and we'll advise honestly.
