Rathlin Island keeps three lighthouses, including Ireland's famous upside-down West Light, with the lamp at the bottom so the fog can't hide it. The puffins have gone back out to sea for the winter. The lighthouses never miss a sailing.
The East Light
At Altacorry, shining since 1856, 72 metres above the sea.
Rue Point
Low on the rocks where the seals haul out. The seals' own lighthouse.
The West Light
Upside down, lamp at the bottom, so the fog can't hide it. When the ocean sends a sailing round the west side, it shows itself out of turn.

Round Rathlin: Lighthouses & Landing

The only tour that passes all three, once around the whole island with a landing at Church Bay. It sailed its last of 2026 on 6 August. The West Light mostly waits for next season now, though when conditions on the ocean send another sailing round the west side, it still makes the odd surprise appearance. Never promised, always a bonus.
