Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Cliffs, Caves & Waterfalls Tour
You have walked across the rope bridge. Have you ever stood underneath it and looked up? On our boat tour we sail west from Ballycastle along our stunning Causeway Coast. Within an easy hour and a half you experience the cliffs with the coast rising right beside you. A different angle to look at it.
What you will sail past
- Chalk cliffs, sea stacks and hidden bays, right beside the boat.
- Kinbane Castle, the 1547 McDonnell stronghold out on its white chalk headland.
- The Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge from below, and the old salmon fishery cottage beside it.
- Several sea caves, the Giant's Cut, Smugglers' Cave and the Mermaid's Waterfall.
Keep an eye out
- Seabirds nesting on the chalk cliffs in spring and summer.
- Next to our seals and seabirds, dolphins and porpoises are the likeliest visitors on this stretch, but still only from time to time. We never promise them.
- Puffins are not usual on this route, but once in a while a stray one turns up (only in season).
- This tour is about the scenery. Anything with fins or feathers is a bonus.
Good to know
- Made for the whole family, from young to old, because of our comfy seats and no cliff path to walk.
- Infant tickets are for ages 1 to 4.
- This tour is not suitable for babies under 1.
- Bring warm, waterproof clothes and a coat. It is colder on the water than on the pier.
- Wear flat shoes with a good grip.
- Seats inside and out, and a toilet on board.
- We do not land on this tour.
- We never promise wildlife, but our crew will always help you spot it.

Common questions
What should I wear?
Layers, always: a warm layer and a windproof one, even when the harbour is sunny, plus flat shoes with grip. Every week someone boards in a t-shirt and regrets it by the first headland.
Where do we depart from?
Ballycastle harbour, right beside the town. Selkie waits on the outer pier, on the pontoon just after the Rathlin ferry: follow the ferry signs, walk on past the ferry and you'll find us. Please be at the boat 15 minutes before departure.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes: dogs sail free, no ticket needed. Keep them on a lead. Most people forget how cold it can get on the water, so please make sure you have your dog covered.
What if the weather turns?
Every sailing depends on safe sea conditions. If we have to cancel because of the weather, you hear it from us fast and you get a full refund or credit, as our refund policy says. The sea makes the final call on this coast.
